Identity management solution enhances operations in the wellbeing district

Updated: 2 days ago

Release 20 May 2024

Timely access of the employees of the new wellbeing district to healthcare IT systems is ensured by the new Haidion Seafront IDM identity management solution. It aims to make operations more efficient, to improve information security and to reduce costs.

The identity management solution enhances operations in the welfare area

In the identity management system, user authorizations are automated based on the employment contract.

When the new Päijät-Häme wellbeing district started its operation, employees from several different social, healthcare and rescue organizations were transferred to its service. Personnel changes were prepared for by introducing an identity management system, which ensured effective access to the new IT systems for the transferring personnel.

- In the past, the management of identity and access authorizations was a bottleneck that prevented new employees from working smoothly during their first working days - or even weeks - says Teemu Mäkelä, IT director of the Päijät-Häme wellbeing district.

The operation becomes more efficient

It used to take a lot of time for employees to get their user accounts to IT systems. In addition, extra time had to be spent to find out the access rights, because the supervisor could not check the valid user rights directly from the system.

Accounts and access rights are automatically managed by identity management in accordance with the life cycle of the employee's employment contract, reducing the turnaround time for changes to IDs and user rights. Supervisors can now also check the access rights of their subordinates via the IDM system.

The accounts and access rights of substitutes, who need fast access to systems before their employment contract is entered in to the HR-system, are managed using the Seafront IDM's Quick account feature.

Better information security and data protection

The new IDM system also helps to improve information security and data protection in the wellbeing district.

- Customer and patient data may only be available to those persons who have the right to see them due to their duties. Because in the new system the user rights needed by the employee are defined based on the employment contract, the basis for the user rights is always clear, and employees do not accumulate unnecessary rights to different systems or personal data, explains Joonatan Henriksson, deputy CEO of Haidion, which supplied the system.

Savings for IT costs

With the help of the new system, IT costs can also be cut. Since the usage rights are tied directly to the employment relationship and its duration, all the licenses needed by the employee are only available for the time the employee actually works. In this way, additional license fees are saved and the costs of the systems better correspond to the actual need.
